LAY OF THE LAND
Moela is our flagship safari lodge, boasting breathtaking views and a truly rare wildlife experience.
The lodge is situated on the high banks of the Boteti River Valley, overlooking the grand amphitheatre for one of the worlds largest mammal migrations. Zebra & Wildebeest congregate in the valley below in their thousands, offering our guests a remarkable view of one of the last great migrations.
Moela sits within a 770 hectare private tribal reserve bordering the Makgadikgadi National Park, close to Nxai Pan National Park and Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The Reserve was converted from farming to wildlife by Chief Ngande of Khumaga Village in the early 80's.
The concession boasts exclusive safari activities and year round access into the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Parks.
WILDLIFE
The Boteti River Valley is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in Southern Africa. Migratory Zebra and Wildebeest utilise the only available water source in the Boteti River Valley during the winter months, accumulating in their thousands in front of the lodge. During the breeding season (November - May) the migration makes the relentless journey across the desert to fertile grazing in the east of the National Park. Dry season in the Boteti River Valley (June - November) sees Moela Lodge enjoying some of the best wildlife viewing in the world, right from your room.
Resident species of mammals, birds and reptiles can also be seen on our game drives, walks and within spectacular view from the comfort of the lodge. The Boteti River also sustains resident populations of Kudu, Impala, Giraffe, Duiker, Steenbok and a healthy population of Elephants.
The Makgadikgadi National Park brings countless opportunities to view and photograph some of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Botswana, while experiencing the remote and unexpected beauty of the Salt Pan itself on one of our stylish expeditions.
