The Okavango flood is on its way, winding through the Thamalakane and heading down the Boteti toward Moela. Zebra and wildebeest crowd our waterholes while hippos roam in search of the last green grazing. We’re celebrating you (our wonderful Moela family), welcoming our new front-office star Tumie, and sharing the exciting visit of Botswana’s Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism.

OKAVANGO FLOOD UPDATE

The Okavango waters are on the move! The annual flood is steadily rising through the lower delta, now flowing through the Thamalakane in Maun and already more than 30 km down the Boteti River.

MIGRATION & HIPPO HIGHLIGHTS

The great zebra and wildebeest migration is now in full force around Moela, with vast herds crowding the seeps and waterholes from dawn to dusk as the summer heat builds. Nature hints that the first rains - and Botswana’s Independence Day - are near, with soaring daytime temperatures signalling the change of season.

Meanwhile, our resident hippos roam far and wide in search of the rich grazing left by the last rains. These heavyweight grazers, tipping the scales at over two tonnes, can chomp through more than 40 kg of grass in a single night and wander up to 30 km in search of their midnight feast.

FRIENDS OF MOELA

What we love most about Moela is the incredible mix of people who find their way to our little patch of wilderness. From Africa to Europe, Asia to the Americas, our guests have arrived from every corner of the globe - each bringing their own stories, laughter, and energy to the lodge. This month, we’re celebrating you… our extended Moela family! From poolside bliss to sundowners with elephants and zebras, from bushman adventures to campfire chats under the stars… it’s these shared moments that make Moela more than just a safari. It’s a place where strangers become friends, and friends become family.

MEET TUMIE – OUR NEW FRONT OFFICE MANAGER

We’re delighted to welcome Itumeleng “Tumie” Montshiwa to the Moela family as our new Front Office Manager. Born and raised in Botswana, Tumie has always had a passion for people and places, which led her to pursue a career in hospitality. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management, she gained valuable experience working across some of Botswana’s top safari camps, hotels, and resorts - from guiding guest experiences in Khwai to managing operations in Maun.

What makes Tumie special is her warmth, professionalism, and love for creating memorable moments for every guest. She thrives on meeting people from all around the world and believes every safari should feel like coming home to friends. With her big smile, caring nature, and wealth of industry knowledge, she’s already adding her own sparkle to life at Moela. We’re so excited for you to meet her on your next visit!

A SPECIAL VISITOR TO MOELA

We were delighted to recently welcome Botswana’s Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Hon. Wynter B. Mmolotsi, to Moela Safari Lodge. His visit was a wonderful opportunity to share our one-of-a-kind safari experience and to celebrate the official handover of the new national-park boundary fence to park management authorities. This important project will help protect Botswana’s incredible wildlife from human and livestock encroachment - a cause close to all our hearts.
