As the Okavango floodwaters begin their slow and spectacular journey south, we’re filled with anticipation for what promises to be an unforgettable season. In this edition, you can follow the flood’s progress with our new Flood Tracker, tune into the Moela Live Cam for a front-row seat on the Boteti River, and enjoy heartwarming reflections from recent guests. We're also shining a light on the powerful role our partner communities play in everything we do.
MOELA SAFARI LODGE: LIVE

Streaming straight from the banks of the Boteti River in Botswana, this is your front-row seat to one of Africa’s most awe-inspiring wildlife spectacles.
Tune in to witness the annual zebra migration, as thousands of zebra journey in search of water and fresh grazing. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, wildebeest, antelope, and the occasional lion making their way to the river - all set against a backdrop of vibrant birdlife and untamed beauty.
Live from the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park… the wild is just a click away.
FOLLOWING THE FLOOD: WILL THE BOTETI FLOW AGAIN THIS SEPTEMBER?
We’re holding our breath (and crossing our fingers) in excitement as this year’s Okavango flood begins its slow and spectacular journey through northern Botswana. Thanks to higher-than-average rainfall from November to May, the floodwaters are now spreading across the Delta’s vast plains - a life-giving pulse that breathes new energy into the landscape.
Two major tributaries have just begun flowing into the Thamalakane River near Maun, marking the southernmost reach of the Delta and the start of the flood's long path toward us here at Moela Safari Lodge. If conditions continue, we’re hopeful that the Boteti River will fill once again - flowing all the way past our doorstep and on toward the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park by around September.

The last time we saw flood levels like this was in 2019/2020 (see images below), when the river came alive and the dry riverbed transformed into a haven teeming with wildlife. As the water creeps south, we’ll be tracking its progress and sharing updates because when the flood arrives, so do the animals, drawn in by the promise of fresh water and renewal.
Stay tuned… nature’s greatest procession may be on its way to Moela.

FROM OUR GUEST BOOK… WITH LOVE
One of our favourite things at Moela is reading the heartfelt notes left behind in our guest book. Whether it’s a magical wildlife moment, a delicious bush dinner, or simply the peace and quiet of the Boteti River - your words mean the world to us. We love hearing how Moela touched your journey, and your feedback helps us grow and keep the magic alive for others too. Here are just a couple of beautiful messages that made us recently smile…
ROOTED IN COMMUNITY, DRIVEN BY PURPOSE
At Moela, we are deeply honoured to operate on lands entrusted to us by our partner communities - people who call these extraordinary wild frontiers home. Nestled within and along the boundaries of National Parks and Wildlife Management Areas, our mission is to redefine safari tourism by placing communities at the very heart of the experience.
Every step we take is guided by four core pillars: Community, Commerce, Culture, and Conservation. These values shape not only how we operate but why we exist - to create meaningful partnerships that connect travellers with the people, heritage, and landscapes of Botswana in a more sustainable and inclusive way.
Through The Lands, we aim to strengthen the link between tourism and civil society, ensuring that rural communities have real ownership and a lasting stake in the tourism sector. Because conservation and development can only thrive when they begin with people - with pride, with purpose, and with shared responsibility for the future.
